COLEMAN COUNTY, Texas — A San Antonio man was killed Tuesday morning when the pickup truck he was driving collided with an semitruck pulling a trailer.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the crash happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday on US Hwy 67, approximately 3.1 miles east of Valera in Coleman County.

Phillip Scott Mayfield, 48, of San Antonio, was traveling west on US Hwy 67. At the same time, a tractor-trailer, driven by Demmit Clayborne Gray, 57, of Franklin, was traveling west on US 67.

Mayfield was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Vickie Holder. The DPS report said it's unknown whether he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Gray was taken by ambulance to Coleman Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. The report listed him in stable condition.
