Not as cold weekend ahead for West Texas

A cold front will lead to a chilly, but not as chilly as earlier, weekend for West Texas.

TEXAS, USA — This past week, we experienced some of the coldest temperatures of the winter so far. West Texas will have cooler than normal temperatures this weekend, but it won't be nearly as strong or as long-lasting as the previous system.

A cold front came through the area Thursday night and winter has returned across the area. Even though brisk winds out of the north are making it feel chilly, high temperatures above freezing will make it feel more comfortable outside.

Seeing some freezing rain Sunday morning is not impossible, especially for eastern counties in our area, but I expect most of the precipitation to be in the form of rain.

If there is any ice, it will only be trace amounts. As of now, it looks the better chance for freezing rain will be in Oklahoma. Temperatures above freezing will make sure any ice here will quickly melt away.

While the brisk north winds will make for a chilly Friday evening, once south winds return that will allow the moisture to return. Saturday and Sunday will be slightly warmer than Friday thanks to the southerly winds, but the clouds will still mean a winter-like weekend for West Texas.

Even though there will not be rain around the area Saturday, but there will be some cloudy weather. The cloudy conditions will limit daytime heating and help us keep cool across the area.

If you are not a fan of the colder than normal temperatures it looks like you'll have to wait until Monday. Even though early next week looks to be rainy, with the near-normal temperatures it certainly sounds a lot better than the frigid weather in West Central Texas from last weekend.

Be sure to keep it here at FOX West Texas for the latest weather information.
