Procession escorting Concho County deputy to Lamesa set for Thursday

LAMESA, Texas — A procession escorting fallen Concho County Sheriff's Office Deputy Samuel Alexander Leonard to Lamesa will leave Lubbock at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday, according to the Concho County Sheriff's Office.

Leonard was one of two Concho County deputies killed Monday night in Eden. An Eden city employee, Ronnie Winans, Public Works supervisor, was shot and critically wounded in the incident, as well.

A memorial service for Leonard will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 17, at First Baptist Church of Lamesa. According to his obituary on the Branon Funeral Home website, visitation will follow the service in the church parlor.

The obituary said Leonard was deputy sheriff for Dawson County before transferring to Concho County.

Survivors include his wife, daughter, parents and siblings.
