Sixth Annual Shine a Light event aims to raise awareness for suicide prevention

SAN ANGELO, Texas — West Texas Counseling & Guidance is presenting the 6th Annual Principal LED Shine a Light event for Suicide Prevention & Awareness month.

This year’s Shine a Light event will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the San Angelo Visitor’s Center.

According to a WTCG press release, Shine a Light is an annual event held for families and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide, as well as an opportunity to raise awareness and education for suicide prevention within the community.

"Shine a Light includes a special presentation and message of hope, live music, memory wall art installation and memorial night walk along a lighted pathway of dedicated luminaries in honor of loved ones lost to suicide," the press release stated.

Shine a Light pre-sale BBQ sandwich plates are available to be pre-ordered now and picked up between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. the day of the event in the parking lot of the San Angelo Visitor Center. Pre-sale orders for BBQ sandwich plates can be placed at wtcg.us/bbq.

Participants are able to register online for Shine a Light for $25. Registration includes a Shine a Light t-shirt, pre-sale BBQ sandwich plate and luminary. Suicide survivors are able to register at no cost.
