Trent teenager dies in single-vehicle crash in Taylor County

TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — A Trent teenager was killed Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash less than a mile from Tye.

According to a preliminary crash report from the Texas Department of Public Safety, an SUV containing a teenage driver and and four passengers was traveling east on Interstate 20 when the driver lost control while exiting the highway. The vehicle swerved back and forth before rolling several times and coming to rest on its top in the eastbound lanes of IH-20.

A female passenger, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver, a 16-year-old male, and passenger Angela R. Rieger, 38, both of Trent, were transported Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene with serious injuries.

Passengers Austin G. Clark, 18, of Honey Grove and a 16-year-old female were transported to Hendrick Medical Center with stable injuries. 

The crash is currently under investigation.
