ABILENE, Texas — The City of Abilene said in a press release Wednesday morning that a vacant Abilene home received approximately $31,000 worth of damage in a Tuesday night fire.

Crews from the Abilene Fire Department responded to a structure fire at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Cypress Street.

Fire personnel arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from multiple openings of a two-story wood-framed residential structure. The response was quickly upgraded to a second alarm, according to the release.

Fire crews initially gained access to the interior, but were then forced to go defensive because of the amount of fire and the stability of the structure. The structure was vacant at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries.

The structure and contents received extensive fire damage, at an estimated cost of $31,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
