Vendors find a home away from home at the San Angelo Rodeo

The owner of Mann & Frau Country Store said she enjoys interacting with West Texans during rodeo season.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Near the slices of chocolate dipped cheesecake at the First Financial Pavilion, Kathy Novian has sold her homemade jams and jellies through the past eight years of the San Angelo Rodeo.

Novian, who owns Mann & Frau Country Store, is one of several vendors who look forward to a surge in business during the rodeo. She said since she began, she has enjoyed connecting with her fellow San Angelo natives.

"They are some of the sweetest people," she said. "San Angelo in itself just embraces you, and they support you as not only as your business, but as an individual.”

Skillet Hound Dog Treats' Denise Oakley is selling her homemade treats at the San Angelo Rodeo for the first time. Her stand is right next to Novian's.

Oakley said she began making dog treats for her pug, who she said requires a lot of extra attention. She said making and selling her treats requires a lot of time, effort and licensing but that the work is worth it.

"I couldn't be more grateful," she said. "This is my first year out here, and I'm so grateful that I was able to be out here."

The San Angelo Rodeo will continue at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The First Financial Pavilion will open at 5 p.m.
