SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Independent School District is planning graduation ceremonies for San Angelo Central and San Angelo Lake View high school seniors.

Virtual ceremonies will be held in May and in-person ceremonies will be held in June.

A press release from the SAISD stated virtual graduation ceremonies with drive-thru diploma pick-ups for both high school classes will be held Saturday, May 20, in place of traditional ceremonies.

Virtual ceremonies will be broadcast on Suddenlink Channel 4, as well as live-streamed online to allow friends and family to watch from anywhere. During these ceremonies, students will be certified as graduates and can pick their diplomas up at the end of each ceremony.

June 26-28 are the SAISD's dates for a celebration, similar to a traditional ceremony, with social distancing included. Graduates from both high schools will be given the opportunity to walk individually across the stage wearing their caps and gowns.

"We want to provide the Class of 2020 with a meaningful and memorable graduation experience with as many elements of a traditional ceremony as possible, " SAISD Superintendent Dr. Carl Dethloff said.

Dethloff also said the district knows this is a difficult time and hopes both ceremonies give graduates the hard-earned recognition they deserve as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.

Students and parents will be updated with more details through the SAISD website, social media accounts, SwiftK12 and directly from the student's high school campus.
