Report: Texas Motor Speedway wants to host a college football game

Pregame festivites at the Bristol Motor Speedway before the Battle at Bristol.

Following the overall success of the Battle at Bristol, other racetracks are eyeing the opportunity to host some major college football rivalries at their venues, according to a report.

The president of Texas Motor Speedway told SECCountry.com that he liked what he saw when the University of Tennessee played Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway earlier this month.

"I didn’t hear a single complaint, nothing but just how spectacular it was. I talked to a bunch of fans – they had no idea who I was, so I just listened to them – and they all loved it,” Eddie Gossage told SEC Country.

According to the report, Texas Motor Speedway actually first pitched the "college football inside a racetrack" idea to Texas and Oklahoma back in 2002 but the Longhorns weren't on board.

But now that Battle at Bristol brought in a record-breaking crowd, the chance that it could happen again is plausible.

Gossage told SEC Country bringing back the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry could even be in play.

“That would be a perfect game for us, because that’s a special one. That was one you always looked forward to. Maybe to revive it, something like this would help,” he said.

The SEC Country report also tossed around the possibility of other big game scenarios like an Alabama-Auburn matchup inside Talladega Motor Speedway or having Daytona Motor Speedway host a game.

But both of those tracks, and even Texas Motor Speedway, make the half-mile Bristol track seem tiny in comparison.

One Twitter user pointed out that Bristol Motor Speedway fits comfortably inside Texas Motor Speedway.
