Heading into the growing season: West Texas drought almost non-existent

After a wet February, drought conditions across West Texas are very minimal with more rainfall likely as we head into the start of March.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — February was a wet month across West Texas. Many storm systems moved through with both Abilene and San Angelo picking up on a good amount of moisture. 

Abilene officially recorded 3.22" of precipitation in February. This was almost two inches above normal.

San Angelo officially recorded 1.74" of rainfall. Although considerably less than Abilene, this too was above normal for the month.

As we officially begin meteorological spring, drought conditions across West Texas could not be much better than they are. Most areas are seeing no drought conditions. This is considerable improvement over the fall when many locations were dealing with severe to extreme drought conditions.

As we begin March, more rainfall is likely across the area early next week. Our next storm system will bring rain chances late Monday evening into Tuesday.
