Special weather statement issued for Big Country until 6:45 p.m.

TEXAS, USA — The National Weather Service in Abilene/San Angelo issued a special weather statement at 6:01 p.m. Friday through 6:45 p.m.

At 6:01 p.m., the NWS said Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line from near Noodle to near Wingate, moving east at 45 mph.

Wind gusts of up to 50 mph and pea-size hail are accompanying the storms. The NWS said gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to vegetation caused by hail is possible.

Locations impacted by the storms include Abilene, Clyde, Baird, Blackwell, Wylie, Nolan, Merkel, Tye, Tuscola, Hawley, Buffalo Gap, Trent, Lawn, Novice, Noodle, Bradshaw, Caps, Hylton, Wingate and Nugent, as well as Interstate 20 between mile markers 257 and 308.

If outdoors, seek shelter inside. 

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect in the Big Country through midnight.
