Abilene residents, get ready for a weekend full of fireworks shows

ABILENE, Texas —

If you live in Abilene, get ready for a fireworks-filled weekend. Hardin-Simmons and Abilene Christian universities are incorporating fireworks into their homecoming weekend activities.

On Friday, Oct. 13, Hardin-Simmons University is celebrating homecoming weekend with an alumni fireworks display. Start time is at 8:45 p.m. and the show should last approximately 10 minutes. Those in the surrounding neighborhoods should be prepared to hear or see fireworks Friday evening around the HSU campus.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, Abilene Christian University football will host North Alabama at 3 p.m. During the game, fireworks will be used during the National Anthem and any time ACU scores a touchdown or field goal during the game. Those in the surrounding neighborhoods should be prepared to hear or see fireworks multiple times Saturday afternoon around Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium.

Also on Saturday, Oct. 14, ACU's Sub T-16 will be celebrating its 100-year anniversary during homecoming weekend with a fireworks display. This event will be held downtown near City Hall and will start at 9 p.m. Those in the surrounding downtown neighborhoods should be prepared to hear or see fireworks Saturday evening. 

Anyone living in the immediate areas where the events will take place should take necessary precautions to keep pets and families safe.
