ABILENE, Texas — Most of the City of Abilene's splash pads, except the new Coach James Valentine location, are opening for the season Saturday after mechanical issues delayed the scheduled start.

Abilene's Parks & Recreation Department is working on arrangements for a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new location at 1317 N. Pioneer Drive.

Parks open from dawn until dusk, seven days a week (mid-April to mid-October) are:

  • Grover Nelson Park, 2070 Zoo Lane
  • Redbud Park, 3125 S. 32nd Ave.
  • Arthur Sears Park, 2250 Ambler Ave.
  • Stevenson Park, 441 EN 7th St.
  • Scarborough Park, 5402 Hartford St.
  • Valentine Splash, Postponed

The City says the splash pads recapture 90% of water, which is treated and recirculated providing a fun, safe, water-conservative environment for visitors. The aquatic spots provide dozens of different water features for all ages, ranging from water sprayers to slides to massive dumping buckets and are free to the community to enjoy.

Adventure Cove will open Saturday, May 18, with the regular season beginning May 25.
