Murder, child abduction suspect from New Mexico caught in Abilene

APD narcotics agents, acting on an FBI tip, went to a home in north Abilene, where they arrested the man and took the abducted infant into protective custody.

ABILENE, Texas — A man wanted in New Mexico for two murders, injuring a child and abducting an infant, was arrested in Abilene Monday by the Abilene Police Department.

The FBI notified Abilene Police Sunday that the man wanted in Clovis, New Mexico, may be in Abilene.

Police found the nome in north Abilene where the suspect was reportedly staying and at around 4:30 a.m. Monday, narcotic agents set up surveillance on the home. The man was eventually arrested, APD said.

A 10-month-old girl who had been abducted by the suspect was taken into protective custody and evaluated by medical personnel.

The suspect, Alek Isaiah Collins, 26, of Manvel, is being held in the Taylor County Jail on charges of aggravated robbery and assault on a peace officer with other charges pending.

Collins is on a United States marshal hold in reference to the New Mexico murders and kidnapping charge.
