UPDATE: Preliminary autopsy report released on man's body found near Howard Co. Fairgrounds, Big Spring PD says

A dog attack was suspected in the death of Jasson Bullard, 40.

BIG SPRING, Texas — UPDATE (Jan. 8, 2024): A medical examiner's preliminary autopsy report on the death of a man whose body was found in late December near the Howard County Fairgrounds has been released, the Big Spring Police Department said Monday.

Preliminary findings show pulmonary emphysema with bullae (air pockets) formation and post-mortem animal soft tissue predation for Jasson Bullard, 40, whose body showed signs of animal predation when it was found. 

Animal control officers seized two dogs from a pack seen running away from the area where Bullard's body was found, a Dec. 19, 2023, a release from the department said.

The BSPD said Bullard's cause of death is still pending further studies and no further information was available at the time of the release.

ORIGINAL STORY: Big Spring Police say the body of a man found Tuesday morning at the Howard County Fairgrounds on Old State Hwy 80 showed signs of "animal predation", a release from the department said.

Officers from the BSPD responded to a call of a dead person at the fairgrounds property at around 8:45 a.m. Tuesday. A pack of dogs was seen running from the area where the body was found.

The department told NewsWest 9 an autopsy was ordered to determine the cause of death. The autopsy is expected to be conducted Thursday.

The man was identified as 40-year-old Jasson Bullard in the release. Big Spring PD animal control officers were notified and have found and seized two of the dogs they believe were involved in the death.
