UPDATE: Victim in May 6 structure fire in Abilene identified

ABILENE, Texas — UPDATE (6:18 P.M. May 14): The Abilene Fire and Police departments were notified Friday, the victim from the May 6 fire at 1617 Peach St had been positively identified.

According to an AFD press release, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner has concluded the remains located inside the structure were that of Chicarus Vickers, 30, of Abilene.

 Fire and police investigators are working through the evidence collected a the fire.

Vickers' cause of death and the cause of the fire were not released.

The Abilene fire and police departments will release information as it becomes available.

UPDATE (2:15 p.m. May 12): The cause of a fire that occurred on May 6 on Peach Street in Abilene and left one person dead is still under investigation. 

According to an Abilene Fire Department press release, the identity of the victim is pending the return of DNA evidence, and will be released after next of kin have been notified.

The AFD is working in conjunction with the Abilene Police Department and will release additional information as it becomes available.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene of an early morning structure fire Thursday on Peach Street in Abilene.

According to a press release from the Abilene Fire Department, at approximately 5:04 a.m. Thursday, units responded to a residential structure fire in the 1600 block of Peach Street.

The first crews arrived to find a single-family home with fire and smoke showing. Crews made a fast attack, quickly extinguishing the fire which caused damage to the bedroom and attic space.

The release said the victim was found inside the home and pronounced dead by Taylor County Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe. No other injuries or deaths were reported.

The victim’s name is not known, further information is pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. His remains were taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiners Office for autopsy, according to the release.

The fire remains under investigation and the estimated value of damage is $10,000.
