Three bombs hidden inside cardboard packages similar to this one have exploded this past month in our states' capital. While Austin is about 3.5 hours away, that doesn't mean dangerous packages can't be delivered to your door right here in San Angelo.
"If you are not expecting a package and receive one that looks suspicious, call 911 immediately,” said Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department.
She says if you do open a package make sure you are extra cautious.
“Wash your hands with soap and water," said Gonzalez.
The United States Postal Service warns people that if they receive mail with no return address, a strange odor, or strange markings they should not open it.
"We want you to isolate the area immediately, don’t open it, don't smell it or taste it,” said Gonzalez.
She adds that if you're at work and receive an unfamiliar package to activate your emergency plan and notify a supervisor.
"The recent events in Austin serve as a reminder to all Americans to remain vigilant about suspicious packages,” said Gonzalez.
