Walt Koenig retiring from San Angelo Chamber of Commerce

A national search for Koenig's replacement will be conducted.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — After serving four years as the president and CEO of San Angelo's Chamber of Commerce, Walt Koenig is retiring - effective May 20. 

The Chamber's executive committee announced Koenig's retirement Tuesday afternoon and said his enthusiasm for serving the San Angelo community will always be appreciated.

Koenig came to San Angelo after years of public service in various industries such as federal government and several Chambers of Commerce. In his role as Chamber president, he has been a passionate promoter of San Angelo and the executive committee said his dedication to San Angelo businesses and the success of his staff is beyond compare. 

“My wife MG and I will always treasure the time we spent at the Chamber serving the people of San Angelo.  We will certainly be frequent visitors!”, Koenig said.

His leadership helped achieve notable recognition such as establishing San Angelo as the Visual Arts Capitol of Texas, 2024 Best Visitor Center in Texas and the 2024 People’s Choice Award for the Best Destination for Arts and Culture in Texas.

“On behalf of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Board, we want to thank Walt for his unwavering service to San Angelo and the success of this city.  We also wish him, and his wife MG, all the best in their future endeavors and travels”, board chair Chris Evatt, said. 

A national search will be conducted to identify the best candidates for Koenig's position.

A retirement reception to celebrate Koenig and his many years of public service will be held at the San Angelo Visitor Center. The time and date will be announced later.
