Unseasonably hot weather in the forecast prompts ERCOT to issue weather watch

Grid conditions are expected to be normal during the weather watch.

TEXAS, USA — With the possibility of ERCOT not having enough power reserves Wednesday because of forecasted high temperatures, the agency has issued a weather watch.

Rising temperatures could lead to an increased power demand during a time when maintenance is usually occurring, which could lead to a power emergency. Grid conditions are expected to be normal during the weather watch.

ERCOT said it continues to monitor conditions closely and will deploy all available tools to manage the grid, continuing a reliability-first approach to operations.

At this time last year, the peak demand was 68,159 MW, with the current all-time peak demand record of 85,508 MW set Aug. 10, 2023.

ERCOT encourages Texans to sign up for grid condition notifications through the Texas Advisory and Notification System (TXANS). Texans can also monitor real-time and extended grid conditions at ercot.com.
