Trio left in awe after driving 12 hours to watch the Great American Eclipse in West Texas

Ethan Scott, Amelia Scott and Heidi Clay traveled to Brady from Durango, Colorado.

BRADY, Texas — Ethan Scott, Amelia Scott and Heidi Clay traveled 12 hours for one minute and 54 seconds. After seeing the Great American Eclipse from Richards Park in Brady, Texas, they'd do it all over again.

Amelia and Heidi are students from Durango, Colorado. The pair and the elder Scott are space enthusiasts. Amelia wore a NASA t-shirt as she excitedly remembered a visit to the Kennedy Space Center.

The girls said they watched The Incredibles to pass time during the road trip. By the time they arrived to Brady, they could hardly contain their excitement, even though their telescope wasn't working.

"This is something that I’m extremely passionate about (and) extremely excited for," Amelia said. "And being able to be here for totality? That’s something that I’m very happy to be here for. We’re missing school for this. Like, this is something that’s really exciting.”

The trio were among a number of people who traveled significant distances to watch the eclipse from Brady. Groups of people traveled from as far away as Canada.

During totality, as the three looked at the sky in awe, Ethan took photos of the eclipse at its peak. Throughout totality and in the minutes afterward, they couldn't hide their excitement.

Amelia and Heidi jumped, high-fived and hugged as they talked about watching the next eclipse in 2045. Ethan struggled to find the words to express what he felt as he scrolled through the photos he took.

All three agreed that the moment was worth the 12-hour road trip.
