UPDATE: 16-year-old dies from gunshot to the chest

SAN ANGELO, Texas — UPDATE (3:35 p.m. March 18): A 16-year-old boy died from a gunshot wound to the chest, San Angelo Police said Friday.

SAPD officers and the San Angelo Fire Department responded to a call about a shooting victim at approximately 3:35 p.m. Thursday, March 17. They found the teen with a gunshot wound to the chest, a release from the SAPD said.

Officers started CPR on the victim and he was taken by ambulance to Shannon Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the release said.

Investigators determined juveniles were handling the gun when the teen was shot. 

The incident is still under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: San Angelo Police and Fire departments responded to a call about a shooting victim on Crenshaw Street Thursday afternoon.

SAPD Sgt. Travis Griffith said the call came into dispatch at approximately 3:32 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, they found a victim who had been shot. The person was taken to a local hospital, Griffith said.

"Right now the San Angelo Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, along with other divisions of the San Angelo Police Department, are currently investigating," Griffith said. "I'll let you know, there is no suspect(s) at large and the neighborhood is safe. We're not looking for anybody."

"There's a lot of moving parts to this. Once we get more information, we'll be releasing it."

Griffith did not give an identity or age of the victim at the scene.
