Texas-Texas A&M rivalry renewal in 2024 will close out regular season, report says

An ESPN report revealed dates for notable SEC games featuring Texas A&M along with conference newcomers Texas and Oklahoma.

TEXAS, USA — It's been 12 long years since college football has seen one of its great rivalries: Texas vs. Texas A&M.

With UT leaving the Big 12 for the SEC, the renewal was inevitable. The burning question was: How soon?

It's still unclear if the game will be an annual staple as it once was in the Big 12, but the SEC announced in June that the two bitter rivals would be playing each other in 2024. The exact date had not been shared, however.

Well, ESPN reported Monday that the Longhorns and Aggies will square off on Saturday, Nov. 30 to close out the regular season.

Traditionally, Texas and Texas A&M have played on either Thanksgiving Day or the Friday after Thanksgiving. What's one more day, eh?

The re-introduction of this rivalry will be played in College Station, according to ESPN.

The last time UT and A&M played each other was in 2011, a 27-25 thriller that ended with a game-winning field goal by now Ravens kicker, Justin Tucker.

With Longhorns-Aggies closing out the season, Texas A&M's game against LSU will be moved earlier in the season to Oct. 26, ESPN reported.

Here are some of the other notable dates ESPN reported ahead of the SEC's full schedule release:

Texas

  • Georgia-Texas, Oct. 19
  • Texas-Arkansas, Nov. 16
  • Texas-Texas A&M, Nov. 30

Texas A&M

  • Notre Dame-Texas A&M, Aug. 31
  • Texas A&M-Florida, Sept. 14
  • Arkansas-Texas A&M, Sept. 28 (at AT&T Stadium in Arlington)
  • LSU-Texas A&M, Oct. 26
  • Texas-Texas A&M, Nov. 30

Oklahoma

  • Tennessee-Oklahoma, Sept. 21

The SEC will eliminate divisional standings beginning in 2024, with the championship game featuring the top two teams in the conference standings at the end of the regular season.
