UPDATE: Capital murder warrant issued in connection to toddler death in Snyder

SNYDER, Texas — UPDATE (Tuesday, May 25): A woman found unconscious at a Snyder apartment complex where a three-year-old child was found dead is being charged with capital murder, according to the Snyder Police Department.

In a press release, the SPD said the woman is Caitlin Tucker, 27. A warrant for capital murder has been issued for Tucker.

The toddler was identified as James Russell, 3.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Tucker was not in custody.

No other information was available from the department.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Texas Rangers and the Snyder Police Department are investigating the death of a three-year-old child.

According to the Snyder PD, Tuesday morning, officers and the Scurry County EMS were called to the Western Crest Apartments, 3901 Avenue O, in reference to a boy and a woman being found unconscious.

When they arrived, they found the boy dead. A woman was taken to Cogdell Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, then transferred to an area hospital for a higher level of care.

The boy's body was sent to Lubbock for autopsy. 

The Snyder PD said it does not believe there is a threat to the community.

The investigation is active and no further information was released.
