ABILENE, Texas —

A 28-year-old man was killed late Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding collided with an SUV in Abilene.

The Abilene Police Department said officers responded to a call about a major crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV at around 8:37 p.m. Saturday. The crash was at the intersection of South First and Grape streets.

The department said a 2012 Jeep Liberty was eastbound on South First and was turning north onto Grape. As the Jeep entered the intersection, a white Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle was traveling west on South First and also entered the intersection, then collided with the Jeep.

The collision caused serious injuries to the motorcycle operator, identified as Eugenio Cruz, 28, of Abilene. Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor and the investigation is ongoing, the APD said. No citations had been issued at the time of the release.
