Angelo State University Symphonic Band to hold first concert of spring season

The Angelo State University Symphonic Band will present its first concert of the spring season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the ASU Auditorium inside the Mayer Administration Building at 2601 W. Ave. N.

Titled "Juxtaperformance," the concert is free and open to the public.

The program will feature both new and classic works for young bands, with several of the performances led by ASU student conductors. Works to be presented include:

  • "Declaration Overture" by Clifton Williams - conducted by Gabe Munoz of San Angelo
  • "Codebreaker" by Robert Buckley
  • "Derivations" by Michael Kamuff
  • "Sketches of Canada" arranged by Michael Sweeney - conducted by Nickolas Martinez of San Angelo
  • "Juxtaposition" by Michael Oare - conducted by Christina Hawkins of Kountze
  • "The Rowan Tree" arranged by Randall Standridge - conducted by Manuel Garcia of Mineral Wells
  • "Rhythmicity" by Patrick Roszell
  • "Into the Storm" by Robert W. Smith - conducted by Riley Spencer of Alpine

The ASU Symphonic Band includes 54 student musicians performing on various woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. It is directed by Dr. Jonathan Alvis, ASU director of bands.
