SAN ANGELO, Texas — Concho Valley PAWS is helping in the rescue of more than 80 dogs who were living on a single property and is asking for the community's help with the dogs' care.

"It's imperative that we refrain from judgment on this situation. Everyone's initial interaction with the owners indicates that this situation is not an issue of cruelty or abuse but rather good intentions that led to things getting out of hand." PAWS Executive Director, Jenie Wilson, said in a PAWS release.

The nonprofit animal rescue said it will immediately start helping with veterinary care - spaying/neutering, vaccinations and microchipping. The dogs will then be ready to be fostered, adopted or taken to other rescue partners across the state and country.

PAWS is asking for:

  • Volunteers to agree to foster short-term as some of the dogs will be transported to homes outside Texas.
  • Monetary donations to help with veterinary care - each dog will cost a minimum of $175 for spay/neuter, vaccination and microchip. Others may need additional medical care based the results of initial exams and heartworm testing.
  • Donations of dog and puppy food - Preferred brands are Pedigree adult and puppy (available at Wal Mart and most grocery stores); Sports Mix Adult in the orange bag; or Sports Mix Puppy in the purple bag - both can be found at Tractor Supply. They are affordable and well-tolerated by dogs in transition, the rescue said. Other pet store foods can be too rich leading to gastrointestinal concerns.
