KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Astros have had a rough start to the season and one of their pitchers is now in the record books for something he probably doesn’t want to be known for.

In Houston’s 13-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals Thursday, pitcher Hunter Brown set a Major League Baseball record for the most hits given up in less than a full inning, according to KHOU 11's Jason Bristol

It was in the very first inning that he set the new standard. The Royals collected 11 hits off Brown, while Brown only recorded two outs before being pulled.

How does Brown describe the outing?

“I pretty much left everything over the middle of the dish, whether it was fastball, changeup, curveball, slider,” Brown said in an interview seen on Space City Home Network. “Maybe (Salvador) Perez’s ground ball up the middle was halfway decent pitch, but other than that, it was pretty much just a brutal day all the way around.”

Brutal could describe the entire series in Kansas City as the Royals swept Houston.

As for Brown, his ERA ballooned after the blowout loss and now stands at 16.43.

Houston comes home for a three-game set with the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park.

The Astros are 4-10 and sitting in last place in the American League West. Only the Chicago White Sox have a worse record in the entire AL.
