"Hi my name is Zakary Webb and I'm here to entertain. He looked at me and told me I don't belong here."

Brownwood's Zak Webb discusses the obstacles that led to his music career.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Zak Webb, like many of us, had dreams to pursue and goals to obtain. As many know, sometimes the limitations in a small town can make reaching the impossible, just that -- impossible.

Webb didn't always live in Brownwood, Texas. Before moving there at the age of six, Webb said he's lived in various places. Whether a small town or a large city, those interactions have had an impact in his music.

"There have been a wider range of people that I have come to know," Webb told FOX West Texas's Tim O'Brien, "you realize how many different people are out there and how many personalities are out there. It's pretty cool."

Webb admits that his road to success has had its fair share of personal and professional challenges. One time in particular he was booked for a karaoke/DJ job in Coleman, Texas. A normal job that he knew how to do.

"The [manager] kind of scoffed at me and he said, 'this isn't going to work.' I said, 'What do you mean?'

Shocked by that response, Webb tried to talk to management, but their response left Webb speechless.

"He can't do it. he can't do it. He doesn't belong here," recalled Webb, "and just the thought of someone saying you don't belong somewhere is tragic."

Webb turned that moment, of what he called racial profiling, into his outlet. He went back to what he knows best and wrote a song about what happened. The title of the track, 'One of them days,' details a lesson he said he learned at a very young age.

"Everybody has their problems, everybody has been in a place where they were told they don't belong there. And so, I look at it like you don't try to fight it. You know it was one of those days and you move on with your life."
