Angelo State music professor to present clarinet recital

Dr. Timothy Bonenfant will present a clarinet recital, including the premiere of two new compositions, Thursday.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — On Thursday, Feb. 3, Dr. Timothy Bonenfant, Angelo State University music faculty, will present a public clarinet recital including the premiere of two new compositions, at 7 p.m. in the Eldon Black Recital Hall in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The concert is free and open to the public. Bonenfant will perform on multiple types of clarinet. 

His program will include:

  • "Eefer Madness" for solo Eb clarinet by Nolan Stolz
  • "Sonata-Fantasia" by Olga Harris
  • "The Cat's Meow" by Monica Houghton - world premiere
  • "Another Look at October" by F. Gerard Errante
  • "Lament for the Red Mountain" by Valentin Bogdan - world premiere
  • "Persona II: Borys Lyatoshynsky" for solo Bb clarinet; and
  • "Persona IV: Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra" for solo bass clarinet by Virko Baley

Bonenfant is a music professor, director of ASU's Single-Reeds Studio and performs with two fellow ASU music faculty as The Mesquite Trio. He has performed with the Nevada Symphony Orchestra, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Houston Symphony Orchestra, Abilene Philharmonic and San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has also accompanied performers such as Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Randy Newman, Dudley Moore, Bobby Shew, the Village People and the Moody Blues.

Everyone attending the concert should complete ASU's visitor wellness screening (angelo.edu/wellness-screening-visitor) and be prepared to show their wellness screening badge before entering the EFA Building. Masks/face coverings are encouraged, but are not mandatory.
