Concho Valley Children’s Emergency Shelter asking community for donations

Hygiene products are a need at a local shelter in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Concho Valley Home for Girls/Children's Emergency Shelter is in need of hygiene products not only for young girls, but also young boys and young adults ages 18 to 26.

This shelter has been around since 1968, and its principles include giving children from troubled families a safe and caring place to live, and to provide the tools and the support young people leaving foster care need to become successful, self-sufficient adults.

Some of the requested items on Facebook are children's toothpaste, body wash, shampoo and deodorant. Also needed are men’s deodorant, body wash and lotion.

“We currently have children that are in need of these products and we want to provide that for them so they can start off their school year feeling good about themselves,” Executive Director of the Concho Valley Home for Girls/Children's Emergency Shelter Brittney Jones mentioned.

She went on to explain how around this time of year, the people in the West Texas community are always open to help out and give back to the young girls at the shelter.

Many people assume the only things the shelter needs donated are items for young girls and young women. But it turns out a handful of young women have young children that are in need of many things, too.

“I’m almost positive we have enough school supplies for the girls but supplies regarding their hygiene aren’t always thought about. About twice a year, we run low on hygiene products, so that’s why we're asking for donations now,” Jones said.

The shelter’s goal is to always be that support system for young children and adults who need it. Whether someone is 12 or 25, the shelter wants to always be there for whatever they need.
