Employment assistance programs help people facing unemployment

West Texas employment assistance programs say there are thousands of job openings and resources available for job seekers.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Jobs are becoming available now more than ever in Texas. West Texas  employment assistance programs say they’ve been busy providing support to individuals looking for employment.

“It’s pretty busy, they come in back-to-back and I have someone in here almost every hour,” Goodwill West Texas Resource and Housing Assistance Navigator, Ariana Acosta, said.

With guidance and resources, Concho Valley Workforce Solutions helps individuals seeking employment.

“Right now we have over five thousand job postings here in the Concho Valley we’re not talking in Texas , we're just talking about here in the Concho Valley,” Concho Valley Workforce Development Board Business Development and Military Liaison, Alma Pedroza, said.

She said the center helps individuals from the application process to preparing for an interview.

“A lot of times when customers are laid off and they’ve been with that job for a long time they have not been in an interview for a long time so what we do here at Workforce is we assist them like this is what you say or don't say, this is how you dress or don't dress like this so we can assist them with all that,” Pedroza said.

With the fast-growing population in the state of Texas, there is a high demand for jobs. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act provides training for individuals that help meet employers job qualifications.

“We also have a program the W-I-O-A program which is our training department. They have adult, they have youth,” Pedroza said.

Concho Valley Workforce Solutions also offers a free childcare program for one year to individuals who work in retail, food services and recreational jobs. Pedroza encourages those seeking employment to take advantage of the resources available.

“This is something that you know, take advantage of it, we have it, we offer it right now so take advantage of it,” Pedroza said.
