ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Fire Department responded to a structure fire on South 2nd Street early Wednesday morning.

A release from the AFD said at approximately 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, AFD crews responded to the 3100 block of South 2nd Street for a residential structure fire.

Crews found a car with flames coming from the hood. The fire had spread to the nearby home.

The AFD said a quick attack was made on the car, as well as the home, limiting the spread of the fire.

There were multiple people in their homes at the time of the fire and those residents in immediate danger were evacuated by fire crews.

Because of the quick attack and being able to quickly bring the fire under control, the AFD said the fire damage was limited to the exterior of the house. There were no residents displaced.

The fire is still under investigation and the estimated cost of damage is $10,000.
