ABILENE, Texas — A traffic switch on Farm-to-Market Road 89 between South Clack Street and Stonecrest Court in Abilene starts Thursday, April 18.

The Texas Department of Transportation said its contractor will implement the switch that will affect both north and southbound lanes of FM 89 and the Rebecca Lane intersection.

Northbound traffic will be shifted to the newly-constructed east half of FM 89 between South Clack and Rebecca Lane. Southbound traffic will stay on the west side of FM 89 between South Clack and Market streets, then shift to the east through the Rebecca Lane intersection.

TxDOT says turn bays and the through lane configurations from South Clack to Stonecrest will be designated and controlled by a combination of pavement markings and temporary traffic control devices (cones, drums, and barricades).

Pavement marking placement begins Wednesday morning.

Drivers are asked to use caution in the area, obey warning/speed signs, slow speeds, avoid distractions and watch for crews and equipment entering or exiting the work zone.
